1986 Gibson '59 Reissue 'Pre Historic' Les Paul standard flame top reissue.
This is one of the late 80s post heritage Flame Top reissues. A few improvements were made over the heritage series at this time, a more correct cutaway, a one piece neck and a nicely dished and flamed maple top body. Purchased from Gardiner Houlgate auction house in 2023:
"This is An early 1986 model that has earlier 1985 features including black cavity covers and still retaining the dot over the I of the Gibson logo."Mahogany body, carved Maple top finished in Heritage cherry sunburst.
One piece Mahogany neck, 1960s profile with a 12” Radius rosewood fingerboard and trapezoid inlays. There is some mild wear including deeper grooves to second and thirteenth frets; The guitar has had a recent refret with Gibson historic style wire. The frets are still ok and there is plenty for a future fret dress.
The machine heads have been upgraded to a set of Old/Aged nickel Grovers, the original Gibson Deluxe square back tulip tuners can easily be retrofitted as there is no changes in size and screw positions. (Original tuners did not come with it, square backs are notorious for the back part coming off, possibly the reason for the upgrade). ABR1 bridge & stop bar.Original electrics beside the two tone pots which do date 25th week of 1991.The original Volume pots do date 15th week of 1986. The pickups are stamped PAT Numbers. There is “Made in USA” Stamped in the neck pickup cavity at this point in time. The pot metal shield cover if there ever was one is no longer present, the base plate is still fitted. This guitar has been played and there is wear, no breaks or repairs. Wear includes, general lacquer chipping especially around the edges, a few very light scratches and minor dings. There is also some cool looking buckle rush near the toggle back cover. Nothing major, just paint wear.
There is lots of wear behind the neck, however it is smooth to the touch and there is no dings. The lacquer wear can not be felt. The headstock lacquer seem to have been removed at some stage, perhaps it was separating, hard to tell.
The Gibson Les Paul silk screen has also been re-applied (not so well)The fitted pickguard is a 50s spec, the original is inside the case and does come with it. New CS toggle tip. Very good player and a Great sounding Les Paul. This guitar weighs 4Kg or 8.87Lb. The nut width is 42.5mm. Comes with a later Gibson Custom Art & Historic” Hardshell case, (normally these come with a generic Gibson brown case, this was swapped by the previous the owner)Get £200 off the website price by purchasing this direct with bank transfer instead of PayPal. eMail/Call for details.
